Grammarian

Word of the Day
The grammarian is responsible for selecting a word of the day, and for preparing a visual aid showing the word, its part of speech, and its definition. The visual aid should be large enough to be legible from the back of the room. At the beginning of the meeting, the grammarian introduces his or her role, announces the word of the day, and demonstrates the word’s proper use by reciting an example sentence.

Language Use
The grammarian makes notes on the use of English during the course of the meeting. At the end of the meeting, the grammarian reports on inproper use of the language as well a refreshingly unique correct uses of the language. As a rule, any guest’s misuse of the language is not reported on. If they want to improve, they will join.

Toast of the Day
At our Club, the grammarian presents a “Toast of the Day” to someone who has demonstrated exceptional Toastmaster skills. After reporting on the language use, the grammarian offers the toast of the day and raises the plastic goblet to honor the person we are toasting. Do not deliver the glass to the person you are honoring.
