June 29 Meeting Minutes
Jul 10th, 2011 | By richardr | Category: Meeting SummariesClub President James E gaveled the meeting to order at 5:30.
As Opener, James recounted a story about a very memorable picnic his family had had. It involved wild animals who were uninvited guests to their picnic. Fortunately, it there was no long-term damage, and it made for a good story, but it was not particularly fun at the time…..
Our first speaker, Michelle, talked about the Toastmaster Educational and leadership award tracks. Speaking has 4 levels, beginning with the 10 speeches in the Competent Communicator manual (CC), and moving on to the Advanced Communicator Bronze, Silver, and Gold (AC-B, AC-S, and AC-G). Each of the Advance Communicator levels requires completing 2 Advanced Manuals (there are 16 to choose from), and an additional task or 2, depending on the level. The Leadership track has 3 levels, beginning with the Competent Leadership manual (CL), which consists mostly of tasks that are accomplished during routine Club meetings. The Advanced Leader levels are Bronze (mostly Club Officer tasks) and Silver (District Officer tasks) (AL-B and AL-S). The final Toastmaster award, Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) is awarded to toastmasters who have achieved the AC-G and AL-S awards. These awards do take time and effort, but their rewards are more than worth it. Michelle’s key question to you is simple – What’s Your Goal?
Speaker # 2, Julie, was reading the speech that new British Prime Minister David Cameron gave when he was appointed as the new Prime Minister on May 11, 2010.
Speaker # 3, Pete D, presented a technical paper on Digital Light Field Photography. This is a new extension to existing digital photography which allows for changes in the focus of the image AFTER it has been taken and stored. This process is the result of a Stanford University Doctorial Thesis by Ren Ng. Although the product (the Lytro camera) is still in development, the potential is enormous.
Table Topic Mistress Tammie has us going with stories of picnics that were just a little different than you might ordinarily expect…..such as an Anti-Church picnic……
General Evaluator Bill led a very good evaluation team – Lance evaluated Michelle, Scott evaluated Julie, and Melissa evaluated Pete.
Toast of the Day went to Bill, for getting a very good evaluation team set up, both in advance and at the meeting itself. (there were several last-minute changes)
Most Improved Speaker went to Pete.
Best table Topic went to James.
Best Evaluator went to Scott.
