What to expect
Toastmasters clubs all share some things in common. These include a supportive environment, interesting speeches, and evaluations. So, what makes Notable Northgaters different from the other clubs out there?
Our attitude and outlook, certainly, but also our meeting atmosphere! We take pride in living up to our name–we are NOTABLE!
When you walk in, you will be greeted by our Sergeant-at-Arms and President; our club is very open and we do our best to make everyone feel welcome. You’ll sit with a club member who will ask you about your interests and reasons for visiting. When the meeting starts promptly at 5:30, you will be introduced to the rest of the club.
During the meeting you will hear two or three prepared speeches as well as an evaluation of each, highlighting the speaker’s strengths and areas for improvement. In the middle of the meeting, you will have an opportunity to participate in Table Topics–an impromptu speaking exercise. Often, you’ll end up laughing at the answers people come up with! As a guest, your participation is optional.
At the end of the meeting, you will be asked to share your thoughts about the meeting. You can visit Notable Northgaters as many times as you wish, and you’ll never be pressured to join—we think our club sells itself. If you do have any questions our VP of Membership, or other club members are happy to talk to you.
Most importantly, expect to have fun! Our club is known for having meetings full of laughter. Many guests comment on how lively the meetings are. Notable Northgaters believe it’s not worth doing something if you can’t enjoy the process.
